NIO's Autonomous Driving Team Reshuffle: Ren Shaoqing Takes Direct Charge of Large Model Department to Accelerate 'End-to-End' Mass Production Delivery

On December 24th, according to a report by LatePost Auto, NIO's intelligent driving R&D team is about to complete several important personnel changes, involving delivery teams and 'end-to-end' teams. An informed source stated that this is mainly due to the underwhelming delivery results of NIO's intelligent driving solutions and the slow progress in implementing 'end-to-end' intelligent driving plans.

The report mentioned that NIO's intelligent driving department has over ten sub-departments, and this adjustment involves the heads of the large model department, deployment architecture and solution department, and spatiotemporal information department:

Regarding this personnel adjustment, NIO responded that it is to ensure that advanced features are better delivered to users, while meeting the business needs for multi-platform and multi-function capabilities, and to respond agilely to rapid changes in technology and products, which is an active adjustment.

An informed individual stated that the entire NIO intelligent driving department will be divided into three parts in the future: the technical committee, resources, and solutions. The person in charge of the solutions will not directly lead a team, nor will they be responsible for core business, but they will have the right to participate in the performance evaluation of team members.

A person close to NIO said that the newly established technical committee will act as a middle platform to enhance the ease of use and stability of the platform. Another person close to NIO analyzed that the adjusted structure is a 'battle-ready structure' aimed at quickly improving the mass production delivery speed of intelligent driving solutions.

Earlier this month, it was reported that NIO plans to push the Banyan 3.1.0 version of the intelligent system in January 2025, which will realize the first push of the end-to-end large model architecture for intelligent driving, and NIO's end-to-end intelligent driving is 'late but arrives'.

In July of this year, NIO announced that its world-first automotive-grade 5nm high-performance intelligent driving chip 'NIO ShenTian NX9031' was successfully taped out, marking that NIO has achieved independent design of hardware chips and underlying software.
