Mercedes-AMG CLE 63 Coupe to Add Gasoline Particle Filter, Engine Sound Not as Expected

Automotive media outlet carscoops reported yesterday that the Mercedes-AMG CLE 63 coupe will be equipped with a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine. However, to comply with emission standards, a gasoline particle filter (OPF) may be added, which could result in engine sounds not living up to the expectations set by previous AMG models.

According to the latest leaked test footage, several Mercedes-AMG CLE 63 coupe prototypes were tested on the Nurburgring track, but the engine sound did not meet expectations. Sources suggest that Mercedes may compensate for the impact of the OPF on the sound by using synthetic engine sound technology to enhance the driving experience.

Regarding power, there is not much information available at the moment. However, drawing from the SL 63's 577 horsepower and 800 Nm of torque, the CLE 63 is expected to surpass 600 horsepower. In the leaked test footage, a red prototype car with yellow stickers was also spotted, indicating that the CLE 63 may introduce a plug-in hybrid version, with power parameters potentially matching the C63 S's 671 horsepower.
