Recently, BYD Shark 6, a plug-in hybrid pickup, was officially launched in Australia with reservations now open. As the first plug-in hybrid pickup in the Australian market, since its announcement with a starting price of AUD 57,900 (approximately USD 20,000), it has caused a significant stir in the Australian market. Within minutes of opening orders, the BYD website crashed, receiving 1,400 orders in the first 12 hours, indicating a surge in demand.

To meet market demand, BYD has decided to import an additional 1,000 units, planning to start the first batch of deliveries from December 2024 to January 2025. This achievement directly rivals the average delivery volume of popular local pickup models, laying a solid foundation for BYD in the Australian market.

BYD Shark 6 is positioned as a new energy luxury smart pickup. The vehicle uses a through-line design language, reflecting its excellent sense of technology as a new energy pickup. In terms of size, the dimensions are 5457x1971x1925mm, with a wheelbase of 3260mm, and the cargo box size is 1520x1500x517mm, classifying it as a mid-to-large pickup.

BYD Shark 6 has a clear cost-performance advantage in the Australian market compared to other competitors, with a price lower than Ford Ranger and Toyota HiLux and other similar models. In addition to the price advantage, BYD Shark 6 also has excellent power performance and a sense of technology. It is equipped with a 1.5T four-cylinder gasoline generator + dual-motor plug-in hybrid system, with a total system power of up to 321kW and a total torque of 650N·m. The pure electric range can reach 100km, and the combined fuel consumption is only 2.0L/100km. Although its braking traction is currently only 2.5 tons, BYD's Australian executives have stated that they will continue to follow up and improve the traction capability, and plan to introduce an all-electric pickup version.
