BYD Establishes Future Lab for Embodied Intelligence Development: Includes Robots

According to independent sources reported by 'Each Auto' on the 26th, BYD's fifteenth division has formed a specialized team to develop embodied intelligence, with the division's top executive, Luo Zhongliang, directly overseeing the project.

Inside sources reveal that in the first half of this year, the fifteenth division underwent organizational restructuring. Part of the employees from the division's technology research institute were split off to form an artificial intelligence laboratory, later renamed the Future Lab, which is positioned to focus on embodied intelligence, including robotics, and is currently actively recruiting relevant talents.

A job seeker who participated in this year's autumn recruitment stated that the salary conditions offered by BYD's Future Lab were 'very attractive,' and many doctors were recruited. Two individuals who passed the interview revealed that the initial goal of the laboratory is the implementation of industrial robots, mainly in the form of AGVs (a type of wheeled mobile robot), with other embodied forms still in the pre-research stage.

It is worth noting that BYD's official recruitment microblog released recruitment information for the 25th intelligent research team in mid-month. The positions include senior algorithm engineers, senior structural engineers, senior simulation engineers, etc., which the market interprets as an official signal that BYD is formally entering the robotics field.

Domestic humanoid robot company 'UBTECH' received investment from BYD in its early stages. In October this year, UBTECH released the new generation of industrial humanoid robot Walker S1, which entered BYD and other automotive factories for practical training.

The BYD brand distinguishes their passenger car line-up under three "series", namely the Dynasty series (started by the BYD Qin in 2012), a line of higher-end vehicles with "dragon-inspired" designs aimed at the traditional mass markets; the Ocean series (started by the BYD Dolphin in 2021), a line of "ocean-themed" vehicles based on new aesthetic designs by Wolfgang Egger and the modular "e-Platform 3.0", aimed at younger buyers; and the "e" series, a line of fleet vehicles oriented at commercial sales such as ride-hailing and taxi.[5] The Ocean series is further divided into two series, namely battery vehicles named after marine animals (Seagull, Dolphin, Seal and Sea Lion) and plug-in hybrids named after naval ships (Frigate and Destroyer).Dynasty and Ocean series are offered through separate sales network, namely the Dynasty Network and the Ocean Network, and uses separate mobile apps for telematics.
